Day 1: Fukuoka to Kumamoto
Begin your road trip in Fukuoka. Pick up your rental car late morning and hit the road toward Kumamoto. On the way, stop at the scenic Yame Central Tea Plantation and stroll through the elegant Ohana Shotoen Garden. Once in Kumamoto, explore the impressive Kumamoto Castle before enjoying dinner in town.

Day 2: Mt Aso to Takachiho
Drive toward Mt Aso National Park in the morning. Pause at outlook points to take in the volcanic landscapes. Hike around Kusasenri Observatory or Nakadake Crater (if accessible). In the afternoon, descend the Aso Panorama Road, collect spring water at Shirakawa Spring, and admire the views from Kunimigaoka Viewing Platform. Arrive in Takachiho in the evening and catch the traditional Takachiho Kagura dance performance at the shrine.

Day 3: Explore Takachiho and Head to Taketa
Spend the morning at the iconic Takachiho Gorge, rent a boat, and walk the gorge footpath. For lunch, try nagashi somen—noodles served via bamboo flume. Enjoy coffee at a local café before visiting Amanoyasukawara and Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine. End the day at a tranquil farmstay near Taketa.

Day 4: Mountain Adventures and Onsen Retreat
Ask your farmstay hosts for hiking advice in the Kuju Mountains. After your trek, head to Kurokawa Onsen and check into a traditional ryokan. Unwind in the hot springs and enjoy a multicourse dinner included with your stay.

Day 5: Yufuin, Beppu, and Return to Fukuoka
Take the scenic Yamanami Highway to Yufuin. Stroll along Yunotsubo Street for boutique shopping and lunch. Then drive to Beppu to witness its famous geothermal wonders at the Jigoku Hells. Return to Fukuoka in the evening to drop off the car and reflect on your journey over dinner.

Day 6 & 7: Relax and Explore Fukuoka
Round out your trip with two days in Fukuoka. Explore temples, sample street food in yatai stalls, and shop in vibrant neighborhoods before heading home.
